Where can I get my generator?

COVID-19 has impacted manufacturing and shipping processes in a variety of industries, including the standby generator industry. Due to these delays and unprecedented demand stemming from natural disasters, the wait for a standby generator is longer than normal. We are rapidly increasing production to meet demand as quickly as possible.

Your chosen model and our availability will also impact your wait time. Because of this, we are unable to give an accurate estimate at this time. We will be able to give you a more accurate timeline during your consultation.

A standby home generator keeps your power on during an outage. It’s installed outside your house (like an AC unit) and comes on automatically, whether you’re at home or away. KOHLER generators come on within 10 seconds of a power outage, ensuring you’re never in the dark.

Home generators run on propane or natural gas, so there’s no refueling necessary.

Why do I need a generator?

If you’ve ever lost power, you know how helpless you can feel. No matter what causes your electricity to go out, a KOHLER generator ensures power outages don’t interrupt your life.

When the electricity goes out in your area, a standby generator kicks on in seconds to provide power to your home. This allows you to live your life no matter how long the outage lasts. It also allows you to stay connected by powering your wifi and devices, saves food that would have otherwise gone bad in an unpowered refrigerator and freezer, keeps your sump pump running, and so much more.

KOHLER standby generators are not solar powered, but they are used to back up solar systems in homes across the country. Because KOHLER standby generators connect to your home's natural gas or liquid propane system, they are a great way to back up your solar system.

What is the difference between a portable generator and a standby generator?

Portable generators can be purchased at big box hardware stores. Most portable generators run on gasoline and can burn through 10-20 gallons per day of use. Homeowners must be careful when setting up, refilling, and running extension cords to/from a portable generator since not following instructions can be dangerous. They have to be started manually, something that may be difficult or even impossible during or after a storm.

Standby generators are permanently installed outside of your home. They run on natural gas or liquid propane gas, which you do not have to manually refill and does not require extension cords to power your home. A standby generator turns on within seconds of a power outage, giving you almost uninterrupted power.

The cost of your new generator will depend on several factors: the model you choose, the size of your home, how much of your home you’d like to power, and what installation entails. We will be able to give you a price range during your consultation.

How much does a generator cost?

Yes! With the OnCue Plus app (available for iOS and Android), you can monitor your generator from any mobile device. This includes instant notifications when your generator turns on and off, status updates, and monitoring. In addition, the app automatically notifies your nearest dealer when there is an issue with your generator.

Why do I need a generator?

This is not a DIY project. Since a standby generator is routed into your home’s electrical system, installing a standby generator is an involved process. In addition to our expertise, installation often requires an electrician to ensure your home’s system is up to date and equipped to handle your new generator.

Our expert installers ensure your generator is properly installed and even take care of any permits.

Can I install my KOHLER generator myself?

KOHLER standby generators are equipped with a 5 year/2,000 hour warranty. You may also purchase an extended warranty.

How do I register my generator's warranty protection?

To register your warranty, we will complete a post-installation Warranty Start-Up at your home. Then, instead of your warranty beginning on the day the generator is purchased, it will begin on the day we submit your generator system's details to the Warranty Start-Up program. We will complete a checklist, make sure the system is properly installed, and enter all necessary information into the Kohler Warranty site.
